The NetCAN Plus series are smart Ethernet to CAN-Bus gateways, which allows to safely integrate CAN-Busses in to existing Ethernet network topology. Higher layer protocols, such as CANopen can be assembled using the available development tools for complex automation control applications. Low power consumption (2W typical), extended temperature range (−20C - +65°C), wide power supply (9 - 54V DC) solid MTBF (17 Years at 45°C) make it an ideal system for industrial automation.
NetCAN Plus series support three operating modes: TCP Raw Server, CAN Bridge and Driver Mode. With TCP Raw Server the communication is handled directly via IP address and port number. The CAN Bridge connects two CAN-Busses over an Ethernet/WLAN tunnel using two NetCAN Plus. The Driver Mode requires the installation of a virtual com-port driver, which makes the network fully transparent for the application.

The ASCII conversion protocol is useful in developing and testing any CAN-BUS configurations. Users just connect directly via Telnet, and have a simple way to talk to the CAN controller. It can also be used to manually transmit and receive CAN frames.
Applications programmed by users should use the VScan API library (DLL), which transparently handles the communication and ASCII conversion for the CAN frames. Programmers only have to handle the CAN frames and status information. This API is supported in C/C++, C#, VB.NET, Delphi and LabVIEW. Under Linux SocketCAN can be used as alternative to VScan API. All VScom CAN devices support the standard Serial Line CAN (slcan) driver.
NetCAN Plus series also support CANFestival, an Open Source CANopen Framework. CANopen is a CAN-based higher layer protocol that is used in various application fields to unburden the developer from dealing with CAN-specific details. CANopen provides standardised communication objects for real-time data, configuration data as well as network management data.
Secure Remote Access
For NetCAN Plus series there is a software option using the viaVPN Cloud system (www.viaVPN.com) to be remotely accessed and monitored over Internet.viaVPN provides secure and strongly encrypted access, without any reconfiguration of existing firewalls. If customerís firmware/application is accessible via Ethernet or WLAN - for example via a web interface or by a Telnet/SSH connection - then viaVPN extends the access over Internet, protected by a VPN tunnel. If the CAN-Bus port is not occupied by local access, also remote operation over Internet is possible.
The system viaVPN provides secure and easy access to remotely installed devices. The installation is quickly done and provides convenient tools to get access from all locations
All connections use VPN-tunnels encrypted by SSL and AES-256. And even when remote access to a NetCom Plus Server is possible, this does not provide access to the network the Server is installed in.
Access to the viaVPN Cloud Servers is done like https protocol in a browser. If web pages can be viewed from a location, access to the Cloud is also possible. No re-configuration of firewalls required.
